The Library of the Campus Bahía de Algeciras, Andalusia Prize for New Architecture 20 October 2022

The Library of the Campus Bahía de Algeciras, Andalusia Prize for New Architecture

The Regional Ministry of Development, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia has held the Andalusia Architecture Awards 2022, where the Library of the Campus Bahía de Algeciras has received the award for New Architecture. Its councillor, Marifrán Carazo, presided over the gala in the old convent of Santa María de los Reyes in Seville.

The UCA Library in Algeciras is a project by Oliva & Osborne Oficina de Arquitectura (OOOA) of El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), directed by the architects Tomás Osborne and José Carlos Oliva. The jury emphasised that “it is characterised by its order and rigour, as well as the success of the building’s topographical elevation, which besides providing greater visibility and a visual articulation of the space, contributes to freeing up land for a small square and a multiuse hall”.

These prizes, now in their third edition, have been revived this year after almost three decades of absence and highlight the work of the most outstanding professionals in the Andalusian architectural panorama.

The jury was integrated by representatives of the autonomous administration such as the deputy minister of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing, Mario Muñoz-Atanet; or the secretary general of Housing, Alicia Martínez, but also by representatives of the profession such as the president of the Andalusian Council of Official Architects’ Associations of Andalusia, Noemí Sanchís, the mayor of Alcázar de Sevilla, Román Fernández Baca Casares; the head of the Architecture Service of the Regional Ministry of Public Works, Juan León; and the architects Ángel Asenjo, María Isabel Regidor Jiménez, Antonio Martín Muñoz and Carmen Albalá Pedrajas.
